Further rules
- In Kazakhstan, drones with a take-off mass of 250 grams or more and all drones with data-collection equipment must be recorded with the aviation authority. First submit a technical conformity declaration via eOtinish.kz, then the free registration application via eLicense.kz. Processing takes ten working days, and the registration number must be fixed to the drone before the first flight.
- Whether third-party liability insurance is required is not officially documented; it is recommended.
- In the 'open' category (up to 1.5 kg, no operator certificate) you fly only by day and within visual line of sight, no higher than 50 metres above ground in controlled airspace and no higher than 200 metres in uncontrolled airspace. Densely built-up areas such as residential districts, shopping centres, stations and government buildings are off limits.
- Your flight path must stay at least 8 kilometres from the reference point of any aerodrome. Keep 50 metres from people, vehicles and buildings during take-off and landing, 100 metres in flight, and always 150 metres from crowds.
- Registration requires an electronic signature; foreigners must also provide a notarised proof of ownership in English with an official translation. The authority does not describe a separate procedure for tourists. Flying without permission risks a fine, detention and confiscation of the drone, according to the UK Foreign Office.
