What has changed recently in the Hoverpoint web app. The Android and iOS app has its own changelog — you’ll find it there under “Help & news”.

2.24.0

  • Improved: Weather check: if the comfortable flying height doesn’t reach 120 m, this now shows right below the traffic light.
  • Improved: Pre-flight check: “Legal & documents” stays ticked for 90 days and shows when you last checked. The compass item follows what your drone asks for.
  • Improved: Airspace map: tapping or dragging the pin on the map now keeps your zoom level.
  • Improved: Accessibility: map markers for spots, meetups, zones, aircraft and obstacles now have a name for screen readers.
  • Improved: Account: new passwords need at least 8 characters.
  • Improved: NOTAMs show the date with year and time zone plus the NOTAM ID. Obstacle NOTAMs are rated as caution.
  • Fixed: Email confirmation: the confirmation link for new accounts is sent again.
  • Fixed: France: the zone check finds the official drone zones again.
  • Fixed: Operator number: in the application pack, deadlines and flight record it now appears without the secret Remote ID suffix.
  • Fixed: Panorama and sights: without WebGL the spot shows the photos as a strip, and a loading error can be retried.
  • Fixed: Map: if the Hoverpoint map service drops out briefly, the map returns to it after three minutes.

  • New: Weather check: a section of the German Weather Service rain radar shows where it is raining around your location right now – with a colour scale from light to heavy.
  • New: Switch account: in the user menu at the top right you can switch between several Hoverpoint accounts without signing out and back in. The accounts stay signed in on this browser; passwords are not stored.
  • New: Share your weather station (Pro): under My profile you can share your connected station with pilots within 20 km. It then appears in their weather check under “Measured nearby” as a pilot station.
  • : Waypoint editor: the yellow handle for the camera direction now shows the same pointer as the waypoints when you hover over it.
  • : Country detection: Ireland, Great Britain, Cyprus, Malta, Greece, Turkey, the Balkans, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova now have accurate outlines. Places on coasts and borders there are assigned to the right country more reliably.

  • New: Iceland is in: the official drone zones of the Icelandic Transport Authority Samgöngustofa appear in the geozone check and on the map – the 20th country with official zones.
  • New: Latvia is in: the official drone zones of the Latvian air navigation service LGS appear in the geozone check and on the map, with a note on where to apply for authorisations – the 21st country with official zones.
  • Improved: DJI import: flights already in the logbook are now recognised – including app recordings and your own entries. For each flight you choose merge, overwrite or skip. The place is filled in during the import.
  • New: Year in review: your DJI flights now add photos, video time, energy used, the highest point above ground, the share flown by hand, returns to home, signal losses and critical events.
  • Improved: Flight record: a street map now lies beneath the track and geozones – in print and PDF too.
  • New: Flight analysis: height above ground along the track (with terrain profile), consumption per minute and kilometre with estimated flight time, battery internal resistance, the distance from which the video signal weakened, and a rough wind estimate from hovering. For newly imported flights.
  • New: Flight analysis as PDF: the whole report can be printed or saved as PDF.
  • Improved: Hangar: every drone can get a nickname, including drones from the database.
  • Improved: Support: on a closed ticket you keep writing after reopening it, reactions work anytime. In the list a coloured label shows each ticket’s status.

  • New: Flight analysis: a critical event such as a signal loss is now shown with its time in the flight – one click jumps right there in the replay. Events and photos appear as markers on the map and in every chart.
  • New: Flight analysis: flight phases as a coloured band (takeoff, manual, return home, landing), track colourable by height, speed or signal, and new charts for radio signal, distance from home, climb/descent, voltage, cells, temperature, current, control sticks and camera tilt.

  • New: Airspace map: roads and place names can now be shown on top of the satellite image. The switch appears next to “Satellite” once the aerial view is on.

  • New: Find pilots: in pilot radio you can search other pilots by name, place or drone. You can find pilots who have published their pilot card, using what it shows publicly.
  • New: Measured nearby: besides your fixed station you can set a backup station. If the fixed station hasn’t reported for an hour, the backup is shown at the top.
  • Improved: Pilot radio: chats can now be removed in the browser too, as in the app – only for you, the other pilot keeps the conversation.
  • Improved: Czechia: geozones on the map now have a light fill. Where many zones overlap, for example in Prague, the base map stays visible.

  • Improved: Photo challenge: submissions can now be sorted by “Newest”, “Random” or “Near me”. They are deliberately not sorted by likes, so every photo has the same chance right up to the end.

  • New: Service status with a country map: on the status page, a map shows every country with its own geozone source in the colour of its service status – green means the source is delivering. Tap a country to see only its services, or filter to “Issues only”.

  • New: Czechia: the airspace check and the map now show the official geographical zones of the Czech air navigation services (ŘLP ČR) – aerodromes, railways, roads, power lines, protected areas, built-up areas and more. Checking DroneMap before every flight remains mandatory; the exact conditions are listed there.
  • Improved: Liability note: wherever Hoverpoint recommends the DMO drone liability insurance, it now also suggests checking your own personal liability insurance first – some cover drones, many don't or only under conditions.
  • Improved: Place search: for places and postcodes, results from your country now come first – based on your browser language (e.g. English (United Kingdom)). You can still find places in other countries.
  • Improved: Own weather stations: the section now explains what Hoverpoint means by a private station – one that belongs to you and that only you can see.

  • Improved: Pro calculator: if you fly for work or as a volunteer, it now asks a follow-up – inspection, surveying, photo/video/social media, agriculture or construction, or fawn rescue, fire service or search for missing persons – and then judges more precisely which Pro features help you. For fawn rescue it also points to the Business wildlife rescue module.
  • Fixed: Waypoint editor: the geozone check now tries once more after a hiccup before reporting “not reachable”. With orbits of many points, a single dropout used to be enough.
  • Fixed: Waypoint editor: the point-of-interest menu no longer slides under the place search. The height field stays easy to reach.
  • Improved: Waypoint editor: if the route is set to “fly through”, a note at the exports explains that DJI and Litchi keep the curves while Potensic briefly stops at every waypoint – Potensic does that with its own routes too.

  • New: Is Pro worth it for me? 14 short questions about how you fly – what for, how often, where, with which drone, what you plan – followed by an honest assessment: “Free is enough for you”, “Pro might be worth it” or “Pro is worth it for you”. You also see which Pro features match your answers, each with the Free and Pro limits, and what you get for free anyway. No sign-in needed; your answers are not saved. Find it under “Hoverpoint” in the sidebar and in the Free/Pro box of each area.
  • New: New: the Hoverpoint guide under “Guide” in the sidebar. It explains every feature of the app – map, airspace check, weather, waypoint routes, flight log, hangar, community, travel and support –, shows where to find them and explains each map symbol in its real colour: planning point, your location, VLOS circle, flight circle, air traffic warning circle, geo-zones and more. With a table of contents and a search box, in all four languages.
  • Fixed: After a web app update, a page that was still open now reloads itself instead of getting stuck on “Something went wrong”.

2.22.3

  • New: United Kingdom and Isle of Man: the official drone zones from the UK air navigation service NATS are now on the map, in the zone check and in the offline package – with the flight restriction zones around aerodromes and prisons, the protected sites under the National Security Act (including military sites) and prohibited, restricted and danger areas. Source and AIRAC date are shown; the UK AIP remains authoritative.
  • New: Finland is back: the official drone zones now come straight from the Finnish transport agency Traficom (updated daily) – on the map, in the zone check and in the offline package. Included: the UAS zones around aerodromes, hospitals and power plants (authorisation required), no-fly zones over prisons and the model airfields. Source and data date are shown.
  • New: Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City: these countries publish no geozone data. Hoverpoint now shows the entire territory as one zone and summarises national law – in Monaco (from 100 g) and San Marino you need an authorisation, over the Vatican flying is prohibited. Clearly labelled “based on national law – no official geodata”.
  • New: Malta and Andorra: there is no zone data for either country, but the zone check and the travel check now show the key rules – in Malta every drone flight needs an authorisation from Transport Malta, in Andorra flying is prohibited over government buildings, embassies, the hospital, the heliport and three natural parks.
  • Fixed: Waypoint routes: when you click a waypoint, its settings now appear where you can see them – at the top of the sidebar, or right below the map in a narrow window. The enlarge button on the map now opens the full-screen editor with the waypoint window instead of a map-only view.

  • Fixed: Weather check: the “Tip for today” now matches the reasons shown by the traffic light. If it warns about solar activity (GPS) or the dew point (fogging), you get a matching tip instead of a wind tip.
  • Fixed: Portugal: the geozones are back. The aviation authority ANAC rebuilt its website and renamed the files; Hoverpoint finds the current version on its own again.

  • New: Measured nearby: you can now choose which weather station is shown for each place – for example the one in the valley instead of the one at the airfield. “Choose another station” lists up to 8 stations nearby with distance and height. Your pinned station always comes first. Free; when you're signed in, your choice also applies in the app.
  • New: Connect your own weather station (Pro): if you have an Ecowitt station or a station on Weather Underground, connect it under My profile › Pilot details. Its readings then show up in the weather check as “Your station” whenever the place is no more than 30 km away. Your keys stay on our server and can't be viewed afterwards.
  • Improved: Weather check: new hourly forecast like in the app – time, weather symbol, temperature, wind and gusts, chance of rain and traffic light for every hour. Tap an hour to see it in detail. The next 12 hours are free, Pro shows 72 hours.
  • Improved: Weather check: new weather symbols for the coming days and hours – sun, clouds, fog, drizzle, rain, showers, snow and thunderstorms are now easy to tell apart at a glance, with a moon at night.

  • New: Measured nearby: for places in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the weather check shows the current readings of the nearest weather station – wind, gusts, temperature, with distance and time of measurement. The nearest station is free, Pro shows the three nearest.
  • Improved: Weather check: the place search remembers your recent places, finds postcodes and lets you pick a district within a city.
  • Improved: Waypoint editor: the handle for heading and camera is now a clearly visible yellow arrow, the red warning dots show the height above ground on hover, and you can set what happens at the end of the route directly at the last waypoint or in the toolbar.

Whoever scans it sees the details you release – name, operator ID, competency certificates, insurance, drone – without logging in. “End sharing” turns it off immediately. It does not replace the documents you carry. Free.
  • New: Deadlines and certificates as PDF: in the “Deadlines” tab you export pilot, competency certificates, insurance, drones and all deadlines with their status as a PDF – for clients, insurers or authorities. You can now add your insurer and policy number. Free.
  • New: Flight windows: in the weather check, Hoverpoint shows the best daylight time windows, rated with the same traffic light and your drone, plus “Now at home: Go / With limits / No-Go”. Free for one place and 12 hours; with Pro for up to 5 places from your saved spots and 3 days ahead.
  • New: Flight replay: in the flight analysis you play back imported flights on the map – up to 64× speed, with timeline, altitude, speed, distance and battery. A marker in the chart shows the position, and tapping the chart jumps there.
  • New: Batteries in the hangar: charge cycles now count automatically from the flight log and the DJI log. In the flight log you pick the batteries of a flight, with the most recently used at the top. You set the “Check battery” limit yourself, and Hoverpoint suggests adding unknown batteries from a DJI import.
  • New: Geo zones for Portugal and Bulgaria: the official zones from ANAC Portugal and CAA Bulgaria appear on the map, in the zone check and in the offline package. Now 16 countries.
  • New: Waypoint routes: under “At the end of the route” you choose whether the drone returns to the start point, flies to the first waypoint, lands at the last point or hovers there. The way back is shown dashed and flown in the preview.
  • Improved: Waypoint editor: the waypoint window docks at the edge of the map, on the side away from the point, and can be moved by its header or collapsed. This keeps the yellow heading handle free.

  • New: Support: you can now delete your own messages as long as there is no reply yet – with a confirmation. Messages with attachments can now be edited too.
  • New: Support: on your phone, swipe a message to the right to reply to it.
  • Improved: Support: the chat window is larger on tablets and computers and stays visible while typing with an on-screen keyboard. The list starts at “All”, “Active” is now called “Open”, and after sending, the conversation moves to the top.
  • Improved: Support: replies you have read now count as read in both the app and the web app.
  • New: Sidebar: use “Customise sidebar” to hide sections you don’t need.
  • Fixed: Measuring: the distance label now moves along when you drag the points.
  • Improved: Drohnie’s spot search: the aerial image now fits on the screen. Solar parks, wind turbines, railway facilities and similar places are no longer suggested, and the note on no-fly zones at the subject is worded more clearly.
  • New: Drone liability insurance: the EFB without proof of insurance, the country rules for Germany and Deadlines with insurance expiring soon now show a note on DMO liability insurance (advertisement).

  • Fixed: Dark design: checkboxes and switches now use the accent colour everywhere and no longer look greyed out.
  • Improved: New spot next to your own: if one of your spots is already nearby, the form now says so and offers to add the new photos there.
  • Improved: Spots: a one-time note that an approved spot is not a flight permit. Each spot now shows when it was last checked (with a note after 12 months), and “Legal” now reads “No geozone”.
  • New: MGRS: search now understands grid references like “32U PB 45109 44311”, and the checked point in the airspace check also shows its MGRS reference, ready to copy – the format used by emergency services.
  • New: Guide: the handbook page now has “Continue reading” and bookmarks – the same as in the app’s new guide reader. One click opens the book right on that page.
  • Improved: Map legend: protected areas outside Germany are now explained correctly – red hatching for bird protection areas, blue hatching for habitat sites, pale coloured areas for national protected areas.

The zone check treats them like an airfield: fly only with the airfield's consent.
  • Improved: Mapping: image width and depth now follow your drone's sensor (e.g. 4:3 or 3:2) instead of assuming 4:3. The overlap you set is now accurate for cameras with other aspect ratios too.

  • Improved: Resolution calculator in the camera assistant: with a drone selected, you choose the lens and photo or video, and the resolutions match your camera's sensor. It now uses the horizontal field of view – manufacturers state it diagonally, so the ground width used to come out about a quarter too large.

  • Improved: Waypoint editor: you can now set the height of a point of interest everywhere – in the menu on the red point on the map, for the route's point of interest and for every waypoint looking at it. It applies to all waypoints aimed at that point.

  • New: Bundeswehr low flying areas (LFA): new map layer in the airspace check. If your point lies in a low flying area, the briefing says so – with the operating hours and whether they apply right now. Fighter jets fly down to about 75 m above ground there on weekdays. Not a no-fly zone for drones, but a reason for extra care. As in the official description, the boundaries follow railways, roads, rivers and national borders.
  • Improved: Spot suggestions: tap the “★ … spot suggestions” line to open a list of all suggestions. Choose which categories the map shows, save them all at once as a folder in your list, or download them as KML or GPX.
  • Improved: Airspace check: the note about NOTAMs that cannot be located now says where to find them: below the map in the NOTAM list, collapsed.

  • New: Drohnie's spot search: rate official aerial photos of subjects near you – is a flight worth it or not? Five photos per round, swipe or tap, plus “Flying not allowed here” and “Report private property”. After every full round you get an extra spin of Drohnie's wheel.   • New: Flight analysis: new post-flight check. After the import, Hoverpoint checks the track for height above 120 m, geozones along the track (Germany, today's DIPUL data), distance beyond the visual range of your drone from the hangar and night flight – with a note on what to look into.
  • New: Waypoint editor: export as a Litchi CSV for the Litchi Mission Hub, with heights, headings, curves, gimbal pitch, point of interest, photos, videos and hover times. Beta.

  • New: NOTAMs with Pro: translation is now done by AI and covers the whole text instead of single words, with abbreviations written out, in all four languages. Numbers, heights, times and identifiers stay exactly as written, with the original text below.
  • Improved: NOTAMs: if the area is only given as a list of coordinates in the text, Hoverpoint now reads the area from it and checks exactly whether your location lies inside. Notices for an area just next to you no longer show up, and the map shows the real area instead of a rough circle.
  • New: Air traffic on the airspace map (Pro): aircraft and helicopters with ADS-B, with a warning notice and sound when one enters the area around your check point. You set radius and altitude yourself – just like in the app.
  • New: Airfield weather: if your check point is inside a control zone, the geo-zone check shows the airfield’s METAR and TAF at the push of a button – wind, visibility, cloud base, QNH and the forecast, clearly laid out.
  • New: Flight log: import flight tracks as GPX or KML (each file becomes one flight, with duration, distance and height) and download the track from the flight analysis as GPX or KML for Google Earth.

  • : Waypoint editor: the map no longer shifts down on the first tap, so the point lands exactly where you tapped.

  • New: Pick a drone from the hangar — and the visual-line-of-sight circle appears on the map. The radius follows the size of your drone, just like in the app. Waypoints outside it are listed with number and distance. It is a rule of thumb, not a legally binding distance — keeping sight of the aircraft is on you.
  • New: Geo-zone check for every waypoint. The zone layer was already on the map, but nothing was checked against it. Now the planner queries each point and says which one sits in which zone. A warning, not a block, as everywhere else — and if the service does not answer, it says so instead of quietly looking like an all-clear.

  • Improved: Tidier start page: the tiles now use the same groups as the sidebar – Plan, My area, Community and Hoverpoint. Checklist templates, My checklists, Waypoint routes and the Facebook group have been added.

  • New: Use a template: the checklist templates page now has a "Use" button – the template is added as a checklist of your own, yours to adapt afterwards. Until now this only worked in the app; in the browser there was only "Copy as text". What you get is a copy: a template changed later will not rebuild your list.
  • New: My checklists: your own checklists can now be edited on the computer too — create, rename, add items, reword, reorder and delete. They are the same lists as in the app, not a second copy: what you change here is on your phone after the next sync. Under "My area → My checklists".
  • New: Records: a completed checklist can be captured with date, time and — if you allow location access — coordinates. The record is a transcript: rebuilding the list later no longer changes it. Saved records are in the second tab; app and browser see the same ones.
  • Fixed: Rules, EASA countries: in all 31 EASA states registration read like a local obligation — as if flying there meant registering there. But you register once, in your country of residence, and that is valid across the whole EASA area. The note is now in every one of these countries.

A header with the period, figures on two lines instead of crammed into one, small icons for longest flight, most-flown drone and favourite place — and the month bar is now a proper column chart with a baseline. Where the legal basis is missing, the zone type supplied by DIPUL now decides, and an airfield gets the text on § 21h(3) no. 1 LuftVO. Only what DIPUL actually sends is still quoted as a source.
  • Fixed: Admin: when the checklist template list could not be loaded, “No templates yet” appeared below the error at the same time — so the table claimed the opposite of what the error said.

  • New: Checklist templates: under “Checklists” you now find ready-made lists to copy — from packing your gear to the last look before take-off. In the Hoverpoint app one tap copies a template into your own checklists, where you can adapt it; the original stays untouched.
  • New: Saved points: a saved point can now be renamed — right in its row under “My spots”. And saving a point from the airspace map asks for a name straight away, instead of leaving you with three almost identically named entries. The suggestion is the name used until now; pressing Enter is enough.
  • Fixed: Airspace: at an airfield whose name contains the German word for water — the Wasserkuppe, for instance — the check offered the 1:1 rule and the note about crossing federal waterways. Neither applies there. What counts now is the zone's legal basis, not its name; a zone name alone can no longer trigger anything. The same correction is in the next app update.
  • Fixed: Airspace in fullscreen: the buttons along the bottom edge overlapped each other on some screens. The result panel now ends a little higher, leaving room below it.

  • New: Airspace: in fullscreen the result now sits in the map itself — top left, with the briefing and every zone found below it. Until now it was on the page below the map and out of reach in fullscreen. It is the same zone card as the one below the map — legal basis, altitude band, CTR clearance and Drohnie's explanation — not a stripped-down second version.
  • New: Airspace: you can now take the checked point with you — to the clipboard or into your list, meaning the private spots from the app's toolbox. It appears in the app at the next sync, provided cloud backup is switched on there.

  • New: Flight log: every entry now has a field for the distance flown, and the summary adds it up — like flight time and the number of flights. Import a flight record and the distance is filled in automatically; the CSV export has its own column for it. This is the distance travelled, not the greatest distance from the take-off point. For flights you imported earlier there is an “Add distances” button: it takes the figure from the notes line it used to sit in and writes it into the new field.
  • New: Airspace: the result now opens with a briefing — the same display as the pill on the app's map screen, with the same four states. If nothing affects you it reads “briefing OK”; if there are zones or NOTAMs it counts them. And if a source does not answer, it says “no data – check manually” instead of showing you a green result nobody checked.
  • New: Airspace: NOTAMs are now on the map as well. What is drawn is exactly the area that decided whether the notice affects you — click it to read it. Notices that state no radius of their own get a dashed circle: that is our assumption, not a reported boundary. The button at the bottom left hides them.
  • Improved: The “geozone check” is now called “airspace” — the same name the app uses. The page has long done more than geozones: it also checks NOTAMs and CTR clearance, and the old name promised too little. The address stays the same, so saved links keep working.
  • New: Airspace: the map now shows the geozones themselves, not just the point being checked. It displays exactly the DIPUL layers the check evaluates — what you see is what was checked. The button at the bottom left hides them again. The second button lets you choose which layers are drawn — that only changes the display, the check still evaluates everything.
  • Fixed: Spots with a 360° panorama: opening a normal photo in full view left the panorama viewer's toolbar and caption floating in the middle of the image. It now stays where it belongs.
  • Fixed: Place search and “place from coordinates”: several requests in quick succession ran into the map service's rate limit — and you were told “no place name found”, although the place exists. Hoverpoint now retries once, remembers repeats, and tells you when it really was the pace.

  • Fixed: NOTAM list in the geozone check: it now only contains what actually affects your location. Until now the distance to a corner of the reported area was compared with that area's radius — so notices from 130 km away showed up, while a restricted area you were standing in could go missing. Notices without a usable area of effect are now listed separately below instead of quietly disappearing.
  • New: NOTAMs for Germany: the official temporary operating restrictions now also come straight from DIPUL — with area, time window, altitude band and legal basis. If one of the two sources fails, you see the other plus a note that the list may be incomplete.
