The Drone Guide for Beginners

246 pages for everyone just starting out.

Before you download: the guide is written in German. It focuses on German aviation law — the chapters on the EU drone regulation apply across the EU, but the national rules of other countries are not covered.

I wrote it myself — from the same experience and the same sources as Hoverpoint. The book works without the app; where Hoverpoint helps with something, it is mentioned as a suggestion, never as a requirement.

What's inside

  • Registration, the drone licence and the subcategories A1, A2, A3 — what you actually need and what you do not.
  • Geozones, control zones and restricted areas: where you may fly and how to check beforehand.
  • Understanding the gear: battery, signal, flight modes — and what happens when one of them fails.
  • Drone photography: settings, composition and what works differently from the air.
  • Weather for pilots: wind, gusts, temperature — and when to stay on the ground.
  • Emergency procedures: flyaway, signal loss, crash — what to do, before it happens.

In the app you will find the guide under Academy. Once loaded, you can read it without a signal — handy when you are out at the launch site and need to look something up.

As of September 2026. Aviation law changes; whenever there is a new edition, the current file appears here automatically.
