Drone rules: Ukraine
Last checked: October 1, 2026
Currently suspended
Drone operations are currently suspended. The details below only apply again once the suspension is lifted.
Martial law: the airspace is completely closed and the German Foreign Office warns against travel to Ukraine; civilian drone flights are not allowed without military permission.
The peacetime rules are effectively not applicable under martial law; flights need permission from the military authorities.
For tourists
Do not take a drone to Ukraine. There is a travel warning, the airspace is closed, and even photographing military facilities can be prosecuted as espionage with long prison sentences.
Further rules
- Important notice: Ukraine's civilian airspace has been closed continuously since February 2022. Civilian drone flying is practically prohibited nationwide, and unauthorised flights can be classified as a security threat. Recreational flights are currently strongly discouraged.
- The regular peacetime rules (registration with the State Aviation Service, height limits) do not help under martial law: civilian flying is only possible with permission from the General Staff or the competent military authorities, and there is no practical route for tourists.
- The German Foreign Office warns against travel to Ukraine. Photographing military facilities is prohibited and can be prosecuted as espionage with at least eight years in prison.
