Drone rules: Tunisia
Last checked: October 5, 2026
Permit required
You may only fly here with a permit issued by the authorities in advance.
Aerial photography requires authorisation from the Ministry of Equipment, reviewed by four ministries – apply at least one month in advance, valid for one month. The German Foreign Office warns: drone flights without authorisation can lead to detention on suspicion of terrorism, and even importing a drone can raise suspicion of espionage.
For the authorisation, the ministry requires insurance for the drone that is valid in Tunisia for the entire duration of the operation.
For tourists
Without authorisation, better leave the drone at home. The procedure is designed for companies and planned shoots, not for spontaneous holiday flights.
Further rules
- Aerial photography by aircraft or drone requires authorisation from the Directorate General of Air and Maritime Services at the Ministry of Equipment and Housing. The application is submitted in four copies at least one month before the date and is reviewed by the ministries of equipment, defence, the interior and transport; the authorisation is valid for one month.
- The application must include, among other things, a passport copy, drone type and registration, a certificate of competence, the programme and duration of the operation, a map of the area to be overflown and insurance valid in Tunisia for the entire operation. It is based on a ministerial order of 6 April 1995.
- According to the German Foreign Office travel advice, using drones in Tunisia is not allowed and can lead to detention on suspicion of terrorism. Importing drones can also give rise to suspicion of terrorism or espionage; confiscations at customs have been reported several times.
- There is no fixed information on flight altitude. For a normal holiday this means: without authorisation, the drone stays at home.
