Further rules

  • In Czechia, you register as a drone operator via the portal of the civil aviation authority ÚCL (dron.caa.cz) – mandatory from 250 grams take-off weight or for any drone with a camera or other data-capturing sensor.
  • You only register once, in the EASA state where you live – the EASA area comprises the EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Your operator ID is then valid throughout the EASA area: if you are already registered in another EASA country, you don't need a second registration in Czechia. Only if you live outside the EASA area do you register in the EASA state where you first fly.
  • Under Section 54d of the Czech Aviation Act, liability insurance is mandatory in subcategory A2, in A3 above 4 kilograms take-off mass and in the specific category; in the open category the minimum cover is 1 million koruna. There is no general requirement for flights in A1, and members of recognised model aircraft associations are exempt.
  • In the open category, the maximum flight height is 120 metres above ground; for obstacles taller than 120 metres, an extra allowance of up to 15 metres is permitted with the owner's consent, as regulated uniformly across the EU.
