Drone rules: Slovakia
Last checked: October 1, 2026
Required from 250 g or with a camera or sensor; registration in your country of residence is valid throughout the EASA area – with a German operator ID you do not need a second one.
Mandatory in subcategories A2 and A3 and in the specific category; A1 (C0/C1 or older drones under 250 g) is exempt. Drones from 250 g without a C class fall under A3 and need insurance.
For tourists
You fly with your German operator ID and EU competency certificate. Check that your liability insurance covers Slovakia; Remote ID is mandatory for drones that require registration.
Further rules
- In Slovakia, you complete your operator registration via the e-government portal slovensko.sk with the Transport Authority (Dopravný úrad) – the initial registration costs 35 euros, later changes 10 (5 if done electronically) euros. Processing usually takes up to 30 days.
- You only register once, in the EASA state where you live – the EASA area comprises the EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Your operator ID is then valid throughout the EASA area: if you are already registered in another EASA country, you don't need a second registration in Slovakia. Only if you live outside the EASA area do you register in the EASA state where you first fly.
- In Slovakia, third-party liability insurance is mandatory for subcategories A2 and A3 as well as for the specific and certified categories – the only exemption is for A1 drones under 250 grams without a camera. Proof of insurance must already be provided at registration.
- Since January 2024, active Remote ID has been mandatory for drones that require registration, as has a flashing green light for night flights.
- In the open category, the maximum flight altitude is 120 metres above ground level, as uniformly regulated across the EU.
