For tourists
Switzerland applies the EU drone rules: you fly with your German operator ID and EU competency certificate. From 250 g you need liability insurance valid in Switzerland; restricted areas are shown on the FOCA drone map.
Further rules
- If you live in Switzerland and operate a drone, you must register as a drone operator via the dLIS platform – the only exemption is for aircraft under 250 grams without a camera or other sensors capable of capturing personal data. You will receive an operator ID that is recognised in all EASA member states.
- You only register once, in the EASA state where you live – the EASA area comprises the EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. So if you are already registered in another EASA country, you don't need a second registration in Switzerland. Only if you live outside the EASA area do you register in the EASA state where you first fly.
- From 250 grams take-off weight, liability insurance is mandatory; the policy and insurer are recorded at registration. Drones under 250 grams are exempt.
- Although Switzerland is not an EU member, it applies the EASA rules directly: in the open category, as in the EU, the maximum flight height is 120 metres above ground.
