Drone rules: Myanmar
Last checked: October 1, 2026
Permit required
You may only fly here with a permit issued by the authorities in advance.
Import and use of drones only with prior permission from the authorities; without it confiscation, arrest and prosecution are possible. There is also a travel warning.
Instead of registration, even import needs prior permission from the Post & Telecommunications Department.
For tourists
Do not take a drone: according to the German Foreign Office, use without special permission is prohibited, also at holiday destinations, and leads to confiscation, arrest and prosecution. The German Foreign Office warns against travel to Myanmar because of the civil war.
Further rules
- Myanmar has been in civil war since the military coup in February 2021. The German Foreign Office warns against travel to the whole country: apart from Yangon, Naypyidaw, Ayeyarwaddy and Mandalay, all parts of the country are affected by fighting including artillery and air strikes, and there are bomb attacks nationwide.
- Importing a drone needs prior permission from the Post & Telecommunications Department, and using it special permission from the authorities. Anyone flying without permission, even at holiday destinations, risks confiscation, arrest and prosecution according to the German Foreign Office; foreign travellers have already been sentenced to prison.
- Given the security situation and the risk of criminal consequences, you are currently strongly advised not to take or fly a drone in Myanmar.
