Travel check for LuxembourgChecklist for your trip: registration, insurance, drone and batteries on the plane.
Maximum altitude
120 m
Registration
Required

Required from 250 g or with a camera or sensor; registration in your country of residence is valid throughout the EASA area – with a German operator ID you do not need a second one.

Insurance
Required

Liability insurance is mandatory for every drone regardless of weight; check that your policy is valid in the country.

For tourists

You fly with your German operator ID and EU competency certificate. The legally binding reference is the geozone map on the Geoportail, not your manufacturer's geofencing.

Further rules

  • In Luxembourg, you register as a drone operator via the Guichet.lu portal with the aviation authority DAC – mandatory from 250 grams take-off weight or for any drone with a camera or other sensor. Since January 2026, new rules require annual renewal (10 euros fee) instead of the previously longer validity.
  • You only register once, in the EASA state where you live – the EASA area comprises the EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Your operator ID is then valid throughout the EASA area: if you are already registered in another EASA country, you don't need a second registration in Luxembourg. Only if you live outside the EASA area do you register in the EASA state where you first fly.
  • In Luxembourg, third-party liability insurance is required for every drone in the open and specific categories, regardless of weight.
  • The national geographical zones map on the Geoportail is considered legally binding – even if your drone manufacturer's geofencing data shows something different.
  • In the open category, the maximum flight height is 120 metres above ground, as regulated uniformly across the EU.
