Drone rules: Lithuania
Last checked: October 5, 2026
Required from 250 g or with a data-capturing sensor; your German operator ID is valid in Lithuania.
According to the TKA, only mandatory from 20 kg take-off mass; liability cover valid abroad is still advisable.
For tourists
In the border zone with Belarus and Russia, including on the Curonian Spit, flights without prior permission are strictly prohibited; the Lithuania Drone Map (utm.ans.lt) shows exactly which zones apply. Because of foreign drones there are repeated warnings and short-notice airspace closures.
Further rules
- In Lithuania you register as a drone operator with the transport authority TKA – via sertifikatai.tka.lt or, with a Lithuanian digital signature, via the e-government portal VIISP. One operator number covers all your drones.
- You only register once, in the EASA state where you live – the EASA area comprises the EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Your operator ID is then valid throughout the EASA area: if you are already registered in another EASA country, you don't need a second registration in Lithuania. Only if you live outside the EASA area do you register in the EASA state where you first fly.
- According to the TKA, third-party liability insurance is only required by law in Lithuania from a take-off weight of 20 kilograms – the basic EU rule applies without any stricter national requirements.
- Flights in the control zones and aerodrome areas around Vilnius, Kaunas, Palanga and Šiauliai must be coordinated in advance; the Oro navigacija drone map shows the zones and conditions.
- Since 1 August 2026, flights in controlled airspace above the limits of the geographical zones are subject to a UTM procedure of the air navigation service Oro navigacija: you need a UTM account (registration with Mobile-ID or Smart-ID) and the TKA online training certificate, submit the application no later than 12:00 local time on the last working day before the flight, request take-off clearance in the system at least 10 minutes before departure, take off only after final clearance from air traffic control and report the end of the flight within 5 minutes.
- In the open category, the maximum flight height is 120 metres above ground, as regulated uniformly across the EU.
