Further rules
- Since RAC 100 (Resolución 01983 of 2023, currently Amendment 2 of December 2024), Colombia has an open category for non-commercial flights with drones up to 25 kg take-off mass; commercial flights fall into the specific category. The responsible authority is Aerocivil (UAEAC).
- From 200 g the drone must be registered with Aerocivil; below that no registration is needed.
- In the open category the maximum height is 122 metres (400 ft) above ground, with at most 750 metres from the pilot and 30 metres from uninvolved people. FPV flights need an observer who keeps visual contact with the drone.
- Flights at airports and within 9 km of their reference point are prohibited; between 6 and 9 km the open category is allowed, but at most 61 m (200 ft) above the lowest runway threshold. A radius of 3 km applies around heliports, 2 km around military and police bases, prisons and critical infrastructure, and likewise 2 km around wherever the President is. Prohibited, restricted and danger areas and Aerocivil's drone no-fly zones (ZNVD) also apply.
- In the open category RAC 100 does not require liability insurance. A policy is mandatory for flights with a flight authorisation in the specific category and for demonstrations.
- Night flights are allowed in the open category if the drone has factory lights that stay on, stays within 750 m and an observer is present. In built-up areas you must also keep 30 m from buildings and fly only within visual line of sight.
