Unclear
We have no reliable official information for this country. Check with the aviation authority before you travel whether and how you may fly.
A simple nationwide route for tourists is not documented; registration and operating approvals run through the Ministry of Transportation's national systems SIDOPI-GO and SIPUDI.
A clear registration route for tourists is not documented; for drones over 250 g, registration via the SIDOPI-GO system is sometimes required, which also handles operating approvals.
A nationwide insurance requirement is not clearly established.
For tourists
An exclusion radius of about 15 km applies around airports, which in Bali covers almost the whole tourist south; there are also protection zones around temples and separate permits in Komodo National Park.
Further rules
- For standard operations, the maximum permitted flight height under the Ministry of Transportation's regulation PM 37/2020 is 150 metres above ground, although some sources state 120 metres instead, so you should check the value against an up-to-date source before you travel.
- Drones up to 250 grams are considered particularly light and have relaxed requirements, aircraft up to 7 kilograms take-off weight are subject to the regular rules, and heavier systems need additional permits.
- There is no simple nationwide registration procedure for tourist use: official remote pilot certification requires Indonesian citizenship, so foreign pilots effectively cannot obtain it. Registration of drone and pilot as well as operating approvals run through the Ministry of Transportation's national SIDOPI-GO system; how foreigners can use it is not clear.
- A nationwide insurance requirement for private and tourist flights is not clearly established; drone liability insurance still makes sense.
- A restricted radius of around 15 kilometres applies around airports, which in Bali covers practically the entire tourist south of the island; there are also protected zones around temple complexes and in Komodo National Park, where a separate, fee-based permit procedure with several days' lead time is required.
