Further rules
- In Finland, you register as a drone operator via Traficom's online service Dronepalvelu – mandatory from 250 grams take-off weight or for any drone with a camera or other sensor. Your operator ID must be displayed visibly on the drone.
- You only register once, in the EASA state where you live – the EASA area comprises the EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Your operator ID is then valid throughout the EASA area: if you are already registered in another EASA country, you don't need a second registration in Finland. Only if you live outside the EASA area do you register in the EASA state where you first fly.
- In Finland, third-party liability insurance is only required by law from a take-off weight of 20 kilograms; for lighter drones in the open category it is recommended but not mandatory.
- For flight planning, the droneinfo.fi portal provides an official overview of restricted zones and current regulations. According to Traficom, you check prohibited and restricted areas as well as UAS geographical zones on the Fintraffic Sky website; temporary airspace restrictions are published by the aeronautical information service ais.fi. Don't rely on the manufacturer's geofencing alone.
- In the open category, the maximum flight height is 120 metres above ground, as regulated uniformly across the EU.
