Drone rules: Fiji
Last checked: October 5, 2026
Allowed with conditions
Flying is allowed, but with conditions you need to know before you travel.
You must register recreational drones with the CAAF using form OP 137 before the first flight, regardless of weight.
CAAF explicitly requires liability insurance only for commercial flights; for recreational flights it states neither a requirement nor an exemption.
For tourists
Complete CAAF form OP 137 online before your first flight and wait for confirmation. Over resorts and private land, you may only fly with the consent of the operator or owner.
Further rules
- In Fiji, every drone must be registered with the civil aviation authority CAAF regardless of weight, for recreational pilots via the online form OP 137. CAAF explicitly requires liability insurance only from commercial operators; for hobby users it states neither a requirement nor an exemption.
- Notably strict: the maximum flight altitude is just 61 metres (200 feet) – considerably lower than the otherwise common standard of 120 metres.
- No-fly zones apply within 3 kilometres of domestic and 5 kilometres of international airports, as well as around police and military stations, prisons, government buildings, national parks and public gatherings. With drones under 2 kilograms, keep at least 30 metres away from people, vehicles and buildings. Over resorts and private property you also need the consent of the management or owners.
- Important for trip planning: registration using the online form OP 137 must be submitted to CAAF before your first flight. Ideally apply before you leave; the authority does not state a fixed processing time.
- CAAF does not state specific fine amounts for violations on its pages; if in doubt, ask CAAF directly.
