For tourists

Recreational flights with your own photos and videos count as non-commercial; they are limited to 30 m height, daylight and line of sight. Anyone filming for others or using footage commercially needs prior BHDCA approval as a foreign operator. Because of mines and unexploded ordnance, do not leave paved paths when taking off and landing.

Further rules

  • In Bosnia and Herzegovina the drone regulation applies to drones over 248 grams up to 25 kilograms. Keepers resident in the country must register their drone with the aviation authority BHDCA; the regulation provides no separate registration procedure for tourists on recreational flights.
  • For non-commercial flights you only need insurance for drones over 1 kilogram; for commercial flights regardless of weight.
  • Notably strict: the maximum height for recreational flights is only 30 metres above ground, flying only in daylight and within line of sight. A distance of 30 metres applies to people, buildings, roads and vehicles, 50 metres to crowds and 500 metres to industrial zones, embassies, government buildings and military sites. Recreational flights are completely banned in a 300-metre strip along the state border.
  • The terms OPEN (non-commercial) and SPECIFIC (commercial) come from the BHDCA's national rules and do not correspond to the EU categories. Commercial flights may go up to 120 metres above ground; drones over 25 kilograms need special BHDCA approval.
