Depending on drone weight

  • From 250 g· Registration: RequiredFrom 250 g operator registration; the competency certificate you need depends on the subcategory and drone class.

For tourists

Albania has adopted the EU drone rules into national law but is not an EU member. Whether the AAC recognises your home-country operator registration and EU competency certificate is not officially confirmed – check with the AAC (dron@acaa.gov.al) before you travel.

Further rules

  • In Albania you must register as an operator from 250 grams take-off weight or with a camera. The civil aviation authority AAC only registers people resident in Albania. The competency certificate you need depends on the drone class and subcategory: for C0 knowing the user manual is enough, for C1 and C3 the AAC requires an online course with a test, and for C2 in subcategory A2 an additional theory exam at the AAC.
  • No legal insurance requirement for recreational pilots is known, but insurance is recommended.
  • You can find airspace restrictions and current NOTAMs on the AIS portal of the air navigation service provider Albcontrol (ais.albcontrol.al); check them before every flight.
  • In the open category, the maximum flight altitude is 120 metres above ground level, with continuous visual line of sight to the drone. You must generally be at least 16 years old, keep at least 150 metres from residential, commercial, industrial and recreational areas in subcategory A3, and at night a flashing green light must be switched on on the drone.

This overview is not legal advice and not an official statement — laws change, and we cannot guarantee that every entry is fully up to date. Before your flight, please also check the official source or the local civil aviation authority.
