Drone rules: Cameroon

Last checked: October 1, 2026

Permit required

You may only fly here with a permit issued by the authorities in advance.

Drone flights are only possible with prior permission from the aviation authority CCAA, which reviews applications individually; a complete regulation is still missing.

Travel check for CameroonChecklist for your trip: registration, insurance, drone and batteries on the plane.
Maximum altitude
Unknown
Registration
Not clearly documented

There is no registration as in the EU; instead an individual CCAA permit is needed, which the German registration does not replace.

Insurance
Not clearly documented

An insurance requirement for recreational flights is not officially documented; liability insurance with cover abroad still makes sense.

For tourists

Submit the application to the CCAA well before your trip. The German Foreign Office warns against travel to the Far North region, the border areas and the anglophone North-West and South-West regions; you may not photograph airports, ports, bridges and military sites.

Further rules

  • Cameroon does not yet have fully codified drone regulations – so far there is only a circular from the aviation authority CCAA on drone marking, and a more comprehensive set of rules was most recently still “in development”. Sources on the registration requirement are correspondingly inconsistent, but in practice you should assume that a permit is required.
  • Whether insurance is mandatory for private flights is not officially confirmed; liability insurance with cover abroad is advisable.
  • A frequently cited, but not officially confirmed, altitude limit is 120 metres.
  • Crucially for travellers: according to non-official sources, every flight, including tourist flights, has to be applied for with the CCAA well in advance and coordinated with the Ministry of Defence; the import itself is also said to require a permit. The lead time and the no-fly distances around airports, people and buildings are not officially confirmed.
  • This makes it hardly workable in practice for short-stay tourists – if you still want to fly legally, you need to submit your application long before your trip.

This overview is not legal advice and not an official statement — laws change, and we cannot guarantee that every entry is fully up to date. Before your flight, please also check the official source or the local civil aviation authority.
