For tourists
Do not take a drone to Iran: according to the German Foreign Office its use is prohibited in principle. Because of the military conflict since February 2026 there is a travel warning and German citizens are asked to leave the country. Taking photos or filming even seemingly harmless places can lead to arrest and prosecution on suspicion of espionage.
Further rules
- Important: according to the German Foreign Office, using drones in Iran is prohibited in principle. Drones should not be used under any circumstances, not even in remote areas. No exemption for light drones below a certain weight is officially documented.
- No-fly zones exist, among other places, over the entire capital Tehran and around military bases, nuclear power plants, airports and border areas.
- The consequences can be serious: according to the German Foreign Office, even photographing or filming seemingly harmless places can lead to arrests and prosecution on charges of espionage.
- Since late February 2026 there have been military clashes between the USA, Israel and Iran; the German Foreign Office warns against travel to Iran and calls on German citizens to leave the country. A drone therefore has no place in your luggage.
